As a blogger, I regularly load plenty of photos, but in recent months, the Select Files option has been really slow in Firefox on Ubuntu 24.04, and I sometimes had to wait for several seconds or even minutes before the Files selection window would finally show up. It looked to be worse the more I used the Select Files button in my WordPress dashboard.
It would not only be an issue in WordPress, though, and it would happen on any website where you could upload files. Saving as from Firefox exhibited the same behavior. I was surprised switching to Chrome didn’t help, so it must have been an Ubuntu issue. The solution was to uninstall one package, as one user explained on Launchpad:
1 |
sudo apt remove xdg–desktop–portal–gnome |
I hope it can help others too.
